Plus: 18 month-long utility upgrade

Happy Friday Cary! We made it to the weekend.

This is a good one, too. Between the farmers markets, a pop-up market at Waverly Place, and even bellydancing, there is no shortage of things to do, so let’s get right into it!

Anyway, here’s what you can expect in Today’s issue:

Duke Health Breaks Ground in Cary

Duke Health officially broke ground this week on a brand-new inpatient hospital campus in Cary. The project’s first phase will include an emergency department, surgical and imaging services, and a limited number of inpatient beds.

According to Duke Health CEO Craig Albanese, the expansion is part of their mission to bring high-quality care closer to where people live and work.

The new facility is designed to keep pace with Cary’s booming population and is part of a long-term plan for an 85-acre medical campus. Once fully built, the site will support about 1,600 jobs.

The building is expected to be complete in 2027.

šŸ™ Cary & Morrisville Hold Vigil for Air India Crash Victims

In the wake of the devastating Air India crash that claimed over 240 lives, the Cary and Morrisville communities came together this week to honor the victims and offer prayers of healing.

The vigil, held at the SV Temple of North Carolina, began with a two-minute silence followed by Hindu chants and a prayer led by the temple’s priest. For many, the tragedy hit painfully close to home—some temple members are from the very region in India where the crash occurred.

ā€œIt’s a tragedy for those affected here, from their home, their motherland,ā€ said Morrisville Council Member Steve Rao. With nearly half of Morrisville’s population identifying as South Asian, the impact is deeply felt across the community.

A second memorial service is scheduled for this Sunday at the same temple on Aviation Parkway, with over 1,000 people expected to attend.

Restaurant Spotlight:šŸ” Corbett’s Burgers & Soda Bar

Nestled in a cozy corner strip on Kilmayne Drive, Corbett’s has been flipping signature flame-grilled burgers and pouring nostalgic bottled sodas since 2013. Owned by Corbett Shope, this family-run gem grinds fresh beef in-house daily and offers over 240 varieties of craft sodas, from Cheerwine to Nehi grape. What started as a personal mission to recreate the simplicity of classic drive‑ins has grown into one of Cary’s top-rated burger joints!

  • Pimento Cheese Burger – Juicy patty topped with house-made Southern pimento cheese; praised as a ā€œrich, beefy flavor, with a little charā€¦ā€ā€Æ

  • Hawaiian Cowboy Burger – A sweet-savory combo with pineapple, bacon, cheddar, and Cheerwine BBQ sauce; Reddit-approved!

  • Sodalicious Burger – Classic cheeseburger dressed up with Sodalicious White & Orange sauces and bacon, celebrating the restaurant’s soda-bar roots.

  • Loaded Cheese Fries – Crispy waffle fries smothered in Sodalicious white cheese sauce and bacon, a crowd favorite.

  • Spicy Dog – A bold Nathan’s hot dog wrapped in bacon, topped with ghost pepper jack, coleslaw, jalapeƱos & hot sauce .

Town Updates

Heads Up, Lewey Drive

Starting Tuesday, June 10, Cary crews will kick off a major utilities and street upgrade on Lewey Drive to improve water system reliability.

Expect daytime lane closures on Fryar Creek Drive near Park York Lane, with flaggers guiding traffic. Access to homes and emergency services will stay open.

The project includes over 5,800 feet of new water mains, sidewalk additions, and a bore under NC 55 — and it's expected to run for about 18 months.
