đA BIG Change to the Center of Downtown Cary
Out with the old, in with the new!
Hey Cary, Happy Friday!
Weâre past Wednesdayâs rain, and it looks like weâre in for a beautiful Friday and Saturday. Perfect for getting outdoors and enjoying some warmer weather! âď¸
I hope you all get a chance to check something out from todayâs edition, whether that be an interesting film at The Cary Theater or maybe the restaurant from Tuesdayâs issue.
But before we get into the content, Iâd like to ask you something: do you have a Facebook or Instagram account? If so, please consider following Cary Digest! Iâm trying to produce more content there, especially things that donât fit into the newsletter like videos or last-minute events.
Click either of the images to go to our page and give us a follow!
Anyway, hereâs what you can expect in Todayâs issue:
A new restaurant in the very center of downtown Cary
Spotlight on a charity helping cancer victims
Must-see comedy show at Bond Brothers
When and where to have some great coffee and see some cool cars!

A New Restaurant Is Coming to the Old Gurkanâs Auto Shop Building!

Gurkanâs Auto Shop
If youâve been to downtown Cary any time in the last few years, you likely glanced over at Gurkanâs Auto Shop and wondered if anyone will ever do anything with that property after it closes. Well, itâs been permanently closed for a few weeks now, and some would argue that itâs in one of the most valuable areas in all of Cary.
Well, we finally know itâs fate. Downtown Cary is getting another new restaurant, and this one has a twist. Lloydâs Full Service, set to open later this year, is transforming an old auto repair shop into a full-fledged dining spot. The team behind it? The folks at Local Icon Hospitality, the same group responsible for Raleigh favorites like Virgilâs and The Merchant. Theyâre promising a laid-back atmosphere, solid food, and a nod to the buildingâs history: so expect some garage-themed touches.

While details on the menu are still under wraps, itâs clear theyâre aiming to create a neighborhood staple. Given Local Iconâs track record, you can probably count on inventive cocktails and comfort food done right. And with downtown Caryâs restaurant scene booming, Lloydâs will have some stiff competition. But if you like the idea of grabbing a drink in a space that once housed oil changes, this might be your next go-to spot.
Poll of the Day!
Iâm trying to always learn more about Cary Digestâs readers and make this as much of a two-way conversation as possible. So hereâs a poll for you!

Charity of the Week

This week, we highlight the Caring Community Foundation (CCF), a Cary-based nonprofit dedicated to providing financial assistance to cancer patients in North Carolina. Since its inception in 2001, CCF has distributed over $2.7 million in emergency funds, helping patients cover essential expenses such as rent, utilities, and transportation during their treatment periods. This support alleviates financial burdens, allowing patients to focus on their recovery without the added stress of monetary concerns. â
The foundation's origin is deeply personal, founded by Jill Wolford following her own battle with breast cancer in 1999. The overwhelming community support she received inspired Jill and her husband, Eric, to establish CCF as a means to "pay it forward." Today, the foundation continues this legacy by assisting countless individuals facing similar challenges. Community members can contribute to CCF's mission through donations or volunteering, directly impacting the lives of those battling cancer and reinforcing the foundation's commitment to hope and support.
