Historic Drought Likely to Persist Despite Forecast
We’re super proud and also, quite frankly, tired of reporting that Cary has been named the Best Place to Live in North Carolina…again…this time by the U.S. News & World Report. So, we’re instead going to focus on the much needed rain predicted for the next few days which may dampen holiday fun, but bring a welcome reprieve from the dry heat.
More than 10 inches of rain need to fall before the drought can be declared over and multiple weather sources are predicting only 2 or 3 inches of precipitation this weekend. According to the National Integrated Drought Information System, last month was the fifth driest April on record since 1895.

Charity of the Week: NeighborUp: Compassion in Action

Serious Cary thrifters already know Dorcas Thrift Shop is one of the best around and that it’s better and busier than ever, but many don’t realize the shop is now a key part of something even bigger, NeighborUp, the nonprofit created last year when Dorcas Ministries and Western Wake Crisis Ministry merged.
With more than 1,300 volunteers, hundreds of donors, and strong community partnerships, NeighborUp provides financial assistance, a food pantry, coaching and training, advocacy, and other support to folks in need. Their mission is to be compassion in action and “respond boldly and intentionally to our neighbors when they experience hardship and adversity”.
