Imagine Cary Community Plan – Engage & Move Update

The Imagine Cary Community Plan (ICCP) has been a cornerstone for shaping the town's future since its adoption, guiding efforts in areas such as public services, infrastructure, transportation, and land use. Recognizing the need for periodic updates to stay relevant, Cary leaders are now revising two key chapters in the plan: ENGAGE and MOVE. These updates build on the foundation laid in 2017, addressing new challenges and incorporating contemporary strategies that reflect Cary’s evolving priorities. The proposed updates focus on enhancing parks and recreation resources as well as improving the town’s bike infrastructure, while also making strides toward safer mobility through Vision Zero principles.

The update to the ENGAGE chapter will integrate the newly approved Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources (PRCR) System Plan, which was developed over a two-year period with extensive public input. Similarly, the MOVE chapter will incorporate the final stages of the Cary Bike Plan and new policies aligned with Vision Zero, which aims to eliminate traffic-related fatalities and severe injuries. The town is currently gathering community feedback on these proposed changes, and residents can review the updates and provide input online. The revisions will be formally adopted later this year as part of a comprehensive plan amendment.
