Ashworth Village Redevelopment

Downtown Cary is set to experience significant changes as the historic Ashworth Village undergoes redevelopment into a mixed-use complex. The project, a collaboration between the Ashworth family, Chatham Street Commercial, and Northwoods Associates, aims to introduce 22 residential units alongside 6,624 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurant space in a three-story building.
As part of this transformation, the beloved Once in a Blue Moon Bakery & Café will relocate to the former Ashworth Drugs building. The move will expand the bakery's space from 2,000 to 3,000 square feet, allowing for an enhanced menu that includes breakfast and lunch offerings such as house-made soups, focaccia bread, biscuits with house-made jam flights, quiches, sandwiches, and salads. Additionally, the bakery plans to restore the building's iconic soda fountain, paying homage to its rich history.
The redevelopment of Ashworth Village reflects a broader trend of urban revitalization in Cary, blending modern living spaces with the town's historic charm. Future residents will have the unique opportunity to live above retail establishments, fostering a vibrant, walkable community in the heart of downtown.
What do you think of this new plan? Would you ever live so close to the literal heart of Downtown Cary?
