Durga Puja Celebration Brings Color and Joy to Cary

Morrisville Mayor at West Cary Middle School Gathering

This past weekend, the India Cultural and Education Center (ICEC) was buzzing with excitement as the Cary community came together to celebrate Durga Puja. The festival, one of the most important in Hindu culture, honors the triumph of good over evil, and the local celebration didn’t disappoint. Families gathered for prayers, cultural performances, traditional dances, and, of course, some amazing food.

The day was filled with energy, with attendees enjoying everything from devotional music to lively performances showcasing Indian traditions. Food stalls offered up delicious Bengali treats, giving everyone a taste of the region's rich culinary flavors. One of the most memorable parts of the celebration was the Sindur Khela, where women shared vermillion and wished for good fortune in the year ahead. It was a joyful and vibrant day, bringing people together to celebrate community and culture in Cary.
