📘Cary Digest is Hiring!

You read that right…

11 months after the first issue, Cary Digest is officially hiring a newsletter writer!

Here’s why:

Lately, my day job has been taking up more and more of my time. I haven’t had the time or energy that Cary Digest and it’s readers have deserved lately, and that’s not OK. Hiring a writer to help out will allow me to dedicate more hours into content improvement as well as some top-secret projects…

I’ve been very lucky and fortunate that Cary Digest is self-sustaining, and we’re finally at a point where I can hire somebody, pay them more than fairly, and pay them for the foreseeable future.

I’m looking for somebody who has a passion for local journalism, writing, and Cary/the Triangle. This is open to anyone of all ages and experience backgrounds, but I think the ideal candidate is somebody like myself 5 years ago:

  • In college, pursuing a humanities degree (preferably something in Journalism).

  • Experience with writing and editing news-style content, even if only in a college class.

  • Interest in growing with Cary Digest and evolving what you do for the newsletter as time goes on.

If that sounds like you, I encourage you to check out this job posting and apply here. If that sounds like somebody you know, maybe your kid, grand-kid, or friend, please forward this email to them.

Without further ado…

Here’s what you can expect in Today’s issue:

  • Winter Weather Prep

Cary Preps for Winter Weather

Cary is preparing for a possible winter storm this weekend as a winter storm watch remains in effect for the area. Town crews have already begun brining main and secondary roads and will continue pretreating streets through Friday. Cary has more than 3,000 tons of salt on hand and hundreds of staff ready to respond if snow or ice develops. If at least one inch of snow falls, crews will clear roads in priority order, starting with major roads and moving into neighborhoods. Private parking lots, including those at apartments and businesses, will not be treated.

Residents are encouraged to prepare now for potential power outages, slick roads, and downed tree limbs. Officials recommend stocking food, medications, and pet supplies for three to five days, charging phones and backup power banks, and knowing how to shut off water in case of frozen or broken pipes. Cars should not be parked on streets so plows can pass. Downed trees or limbs should be reported to Cary 311, not handled by residents, especially if power lines may be involved. Power outages should be reported directly to utility providers. Residents are also urged to check on neighbors, stay off roads during severe weather, and follow Town of Cary updates on social media or at carync.gov for the latest information.

If you’re looking for reliable forecasting for NC weather, I highly recommend checking out NC Weather Authority. (Not a paid recommendation, they’re just great).

Not Conservative. Not Liberal. Just Christian.

The world feels chaotic, but your news source doesn’t have to.

You can hide under a rock or spiral into the chaos… or you can subscribe to The Pour Over and get the news you need to know and the peace you crave.

Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, The Pour Over sends quick news summaries that are actually fun to read. Plus, each newsletter includes short biblical reminders to help you stay focused on Christ and eternity. Instead of fueling outrage or anxiety, the news becomes another prompt to rest in God and respond in faith.

Over 1.5 million Christians have ditched the doomscroll and found a better way to stay informed––Christ-first, anger-free, and (even kinda) funny.

Restaurant Spotlight: Brecotea!

If you live in Cary and have spent any time around Kildaire Farm Road, you have probably seen Brecotea buzzing with people coming and going. It is one of those spots that works for just about any time of day. You can stop in for a quick breakfast pastry, meet a friend for tea in the afternoon, or grab something sweet on the way home. The display cases are always full of fresh breads, cakes, and pastries, and the drink menu covers everything from classic coffee to bubble tea and fruit teas.

What really makes Brecotea feel like a neighborhood favorite is how easy it is to settle in. There is plenty of seating, the staff keeps things moving even when it is busy, and you will often see students studying, parents catching up, or neighbors just taking a break. It is not uncommon to run into someone you know there. If you have not stopped by yet, it is the kind of place that quickly becomes part of your regular Cary routine once you do.
