The Lucy Daniels Center is Expanding!

The Lucy Daniels Center in Cary is set to expand its footprint after receiving nearly $900,000 in federal funding, part of a project that will triple the facility’s size. Construction will take about nine months, with the new wing expected to open next fall. The expansion will allow the nonprofit to offer additional services such as speech therapy, psychological testing, and training programs for clinicians. Once complete, the center will be able to serve more than 1,500 children each year.

Founded more than 35 years ago by Lucy Daniels, now 91, the center has long focused on helping children with emotional and behavioral challenges. Daniels, who was hospitalized as a young person for an eating disorder, said she never imagined how much the program would grow but is proud to see it meet the Triangle’s rising mental health needs. The new facility will make it easier for families to access multiple types of care in one place and ensure that more children in the region receive the early support they need.

Restaurant Spotlight: Mezcalito Cary

Mezcalito Cary brings high-energy flavor to downtown Cary with its modern take on Mexican and Tex-Mex classics. The space is bright and social, with colorful murals, upbeat music, and a bar that anchors the room with top-shelf tequila and mezcal cocktails. Whether you’re coming for a casual lunch, date night, or group celebration, Mezcalito hits that sweet spot between festive and laid-back.

The menu delivers on both authenticity and fun, featuring birria tacos, sizzling fajitas, and quesadillas loaded with bold, balanced spice. Portions are generous, cocktails are photo-worthy, and the service keeps things moving even when the place is buzzing. It’s the kind of spot that turns dinner into an event without trying too hard, Cary’s go-to for good food, good drinks, and good energy.

P.S.: It’s in the building that On The Border used to be in, near Cary High School

P.S.S.: Their website was down when I wrote this, but I’ll link it just in case its back up. (They’re a new business)
